From Developer to CTO and everything else in between.
Born and raised in Australia, I earned my degree from Macquarie University in Sydney and have since cultivated a diverse career over 25 years, encompassing roles as an entrepreneur, technologist, and business leader across Australia and Asia in both the government and private sectors.
Having worked for global companies that include AT&T, Dingo Blue Telco, Bank Indonesia & Commonwealth Bank in various technical and senior leadership roles, starting Sutisno Pty Limited marked a significant transition in my life that I approached full of ambition, drive, enthusiasm, passion and a sense of rationality. Since its inception in 2016, it has been an endless journey full of challenges, fluctuations, moments of progress, setbacks, and many pivots based on market feedback and evolving circumstances.
The initial stages of pursuing my vision were both straightforward and challenging. Knowing I would be responsible for the majority, if not all, of the required work, I undertook a thorough self-assessment of my situation, capabilities, and resources. I prepared for the worst and planned for the best by beginning with a to-do list, which later evolved into a project plan and eventually formed the foundation for launching not only my own startup but also many of my clients too.
In a landscape where change is the only certainty, by reminding myself that my purpose is to "create technology to disconnect", I ensured that my vision for Sutisno remained unwavering.
Through my technology management consulting services I was able to bridge the gap between business and technology effectively, by implementing a customised delivery framework tailored to each and every client using onshore resources. In doing so I further enabled them to accelerate their "go-to-market" timelines effectively.
Providing expert advice was never going to be enough, and this was when I decided to form Dooabl. It was through Dooabl, that I was able to explore my hands-on technical abilities and create the much needed systems, applications and software that will take my clients and myself closer to achieving greater autonomy.
This approach empowered my clients to achieve their technology objectives efficiently and, crucially, within budget.
Fast forward to 2024, with two children under the age of four who love tapping away at the keyboard whenever I'm on my computer, I started thinking: why not introduce them to coding? Upon searching the internet for "visual programming for kids," I found hundreds of courses, tutorials, and resources, but none of them quite met my expectations.
I wanted to teach them using a method I relied on when pressed for time and learning something new; whether it be a coding language, system, application, architecture, or methodology, basically anything technology related. The lessons needed to be visual, direct, brief, concise, easy to grasp, and easy to reference later on.
This is when I decided to step out of my comfort zone and launch Hacking With Dooabl. This platform wasn't just about teaching beginners how to code; it was about offering comprehensive guidance on launching an app. I aimed to create a resource that would emphasize the broader aspects of app development beyond coding alone.
Reflecting back to when I started this venture in 2016, have I now reached my desired destination?
Short answer is no. Long answer, while I may not be exactly where I initially envisioned, I am content with the strides I've made in my professional and personal life. This satisfaction fuels my commitment to continually evolve this venture until I am no longer able to work.
